Author Visits 3rd Grade at Brownsville

Today we hosted author and storyteller Ali Pfautz to our classroom!  She entertained us with her brand new picture book, No More Slooping, Sara Sue!  Ali shared her process of creating stories to tell and stories to write.  There is a difference in her technique.  Be sure to ask your child about the visit and how it inspires us to be writers. Some of the questions that were asked by 3rd graders....

  • How long did it take you to write your new book?  One and half years!
  • Where did you get the idea for your new book?  Slurping noises and other sounds that make interesting book topics
  • How many drafts of this book did you write?  Thirteen!
  • What other questions would you like to ask Ali Pfautz?

You can see Ali "The Story Lady" again at Over the Moon Bookstore.  She will be performing, greeting her fans, and signing books at 3:00 on October 12th.  Hope to see you there!

Got Seeds?

September 23, 2014

Dear Parents,
The Virginia Department of Forestry needs our help!  A Crozet Gazette story focused on the need for help with acorn and seed collection.  The article states that the Virginia Department of Forestry is collecting acorns and seeds of specific trees in order to preserve them.  If you have any acorns or seeds, please send them in no later than October 3rd!  We will sort them, place them in paper bags, label them and then I will deliver them to the Department of Forestry.
Here are pictures of the types of acorns and seeds that are needed:
