Got Seeds?
September 23, 2014
Dear Parents,
The Virginia Department of Forestry needs our help! A Crozet Gazette story focused on the need
for help with acorn and seed collection.
The article states that the Virginia Department of Forestry is
collecting acorns and seeds of specific trees in order to preserve them. If you
have any acorns or seeds, please send them in no later than October 3rd! We will sort them, place them in paper
bags, label them and then I will deliver them to the Department of Forestry.
Here are pictures of the types of acorns and seeds that
are needed:
Allegheny Chinkapin

Chinese Chestnut

Hazelnut

Black Oak

Chestnut Oak

Northern Red Oak

Pin Oak

Swamp Chestnut Oak

Swamp White Oak

White Oak

Willow Oak

Parent Conferences
It’s almost time to begin reporting on student progress for the first quarter of the school year. Parent conferences will be held in October, as indicated on the sign-up sheet being sent home Monday, Sept. 22nd. (First quarter report cards will be issued in November.) Please return your parent conference form as soon as possible. I’ll confirm your response on a first come, first serve basis. I look forward to meeting with every family in the weeks ahead. 3rd grade students are welcome to attend conferences with Mrs. Robinson and parents! Our goal will be to show our united support for your child's success this year.

What's Going On in Third Grade?
Hey, we've completed a week of math lessons focused on MEASUREMENT! These lessons served several purposes..
1. Every class had a chance to work with each of the 5 Third Grade Teachers! Our class visited one teacher per day for the past 5 days during math to get to know them a little better.
2. Our lessons included 5 different important types of measurement: measuring or comparing length, weight, temperature, capacity, and knowing the proper tool to use in a measurement situation.
3. We have reviewed the skills of estimating, accurate measurement, metric vs. customary systems, and more!
Be sure to ask your child about these fun and exciting math lessons! Third Grade ROCKS!

Welcome to a New School Year!
The Open House was a big success! I met so many new families, as well as a few familiar ones. The children and I have enjoyed 3 days of school together so far, and I can tell that we're going to have a lot of fun in 3rd grade this year!
This blog will be a place for me to post information about what is happening in 3rd grade and in our classroom. These posts will replace a traditionally paper newsletter, so be on the lookout for an email reminder every week, or every other week. Thank you for your support this year. I look forward to working with you all!
